Choose 2 quotes from the interview and write a short response for each quote. Then answer the two questions below.
"I like to consider language as something we ingest and regurgitate as we become. How we listen and how we speak is how we navigate life and how we understand our body in process. My body has become this recorder of sorts, and language has become a space for me to reveal the things that I’ve absorbed with my body"
This quote really stood out to me because it made me think deeply about something that I look over every day, language. Being a person who speaks two languages, I related to the quote especially where LeSaur calls the body a recorder and language is something we ingest. Growing up, Spanish was my first language, and the way I learned Spanish and gained an accent was through my mind/body acting like a recorder, where I would regurgitate what I grasped. I had to absorb my second language english and growing up til now, it does help me see how the two languages help me navigate through life and the advantages and disadvantages that come with it.
"If I’m going to be looked at and perceived by someone else, the silhouette feels like a space where I can control what is being taken in and also push someone to question how they are looking."
The way LeSeur uses the silhouette, I was drawn into it because when I think of a silhouette, I think of it being used to hide someone's identity or keep it mysterious. But I loved how LeSeur instead used it to take control of how much she wants the audience to see or take in. Aswell as to make the audience think within themselves how theyre perciving the silhouette instead of just accepting that the silhouette could be a mystery person or the artist.
