POST 4: Sara Kolenovic

 POST 4 CREATING MEANING

Choose 2 quotes from the interview and write a short response for each quote. Then answer the two questions below.

The quotes that stood out to me was "How we listen and how we speak is how we navigate life and how we understand our body in process." This is because it also creates the type of artist we are and to understand our work and what we are communicating, we need to understand our body's during these times of just processing everything in. That is the beautiful part of it all.

Another quote that stood out to me was "the silhouette feels like a space where I can control what is being taken in and also push someone to question how they are looking." This made me reflect so much as perhaps it is a space where judgement is not welcomed and she feels safe within her silhouette as she speaks about it like it is her home. Which overall is very intimate and it allows the viewer to understand that and take precaution before stepping into such an intimate space.
  • What inspired LeSeur? Compare what motivates you to create meaning in your work.
What inspired LeSeur was incorporating her body into her works and it demonstrates for itself through her pieces. You can see how her body allows her to explore various genres of works. Which honestly in my perspective shows how LeSeur allows her body to explore different types of works — which does not limit her.

What motivates me to create my work is the emotional aspect and the connection I make with my viewer, piece I create, and the meaning behind all of this. Which is quite similar to LeSeur where she would have meanings to why she would do the things she does — that is what every artist has in common. To be honest though I love creating my work based on real stories that happens to other people as well which allows someone who went through a particular situation to resonate and feel heard from the piece.

  • How does your choice of material, process, aesthetic, content, etc. reinforce your message?
My choice of material, process, and content reinforce my message by using my computer most of the time currently. As I do have other works that is on physical paper for years now, I just love the fact I can create Graphic Design work that conveys meaning so then I can represent people in different ways and speak about different issues having to do with the United States of America. But in order to do that though, I do take inspiration from other works from different artists so that way I can use what they communicate and hopefully expand on my various subjects I am hoping to communicate to my audience. This is because I cannot create great work without researching what has worked — what has not. Overall, the process is a back and forward process but takes time, which what makes it work at the end.
