POST 4 CREATING MEANING - Martin Jimenez

*Choose 2 quotes from the interview and write a short response for each quote. Then answer the two questions below.

The first quote that I thought was interesting was when she said "I use color as an invite and then leave the decision to the viewer if they will actually stay and be with the content or if they’ll avoid interacting". Here she is talking about her work which is a video installation in a blue hued room which is from her show "there are other hues of blue" at the Marlborough gallery. As the artist, I like how she is giving us the audience member to stay and watch the installation and truly be immersed in her artwork which is pretty amazing because I would feel like i would be one with her work of art.

Furthermore, the second quote that I liked was when she said in the interview " I wanted the silhouette to embody movement and spirit rather than a tangible body". Here she was asked by the interviewer how she felt fascinated by LeSeur's use of silhouettes in the Marlborough gallery. To me LeSeur definitely sees certain things the way another person wouldn't and thats what makes her stand out and unique for me. For example most people would see a silhouette as a regular body but LeSeur sees it quite differently by wanting the silhouette in her artwork to be an embody movement and spirit. This is what I admire of her by not closing herself in and going the safe route but rather taking above and beyond with her imagination and isnt afraid to show her self expression.

  • What inspired LeSeur? Compare what motivates you to create meaning in your work.

I believe the inspiration for LeSeur is the use of the body as she uses most of her self image in her artworks which Ive noticed. Her own body pretty much plays a key factor in most of the work she has shown which works best as both a medium aswell as a surface too. Thats what motivates her to make her best work ,by being able to use her body and get the feel for it and being totally comfortable with herself by doing so.

  • How does your choice of material, process, aesthetic, content, etc. reinforce your message?

I feel like my choice of process would have to be using a computer which to me is the most effective way that I will be able to get the best out of the work that I do and what I feel the most comfortable in using. For aesthetic I usually like to do a more minimalistic approach in my logos for example as I believe in the whole "less is more" approach to things and it also reinforces my message by believing that creating a minimalistic logo is important for the brand to have a long lasting impact and keeping it simple making it recognizable for a lifetime that can last for generations, basically reducing the elements to make it what is necessary in order for me to focus on the core functionality and clarity of the brand.
