One of the works that resonated with is Jennifer Roberts’ Family Album Series. In the gallery's corner, photos of various families, couples, children and moments are depicted. The photos surround the three walls like a family member hanging every captured moment. The fact that she turned her melancholy from losing her family photos into a series that has such emotional death is amazing. Artwork made me think of my childhood and the sweet moments with my family. It especially reminded me of my tia because she would be the type of person to pull all the family photos on a wall like this. This may not connect to my typical works of art but it would connect with more of my personal works. My personal work explores various emotional and philosophical aspects. Memory is complex and subjective. From Jennifer Roberts’ Family Album, I learned that creating something with familiarity can connect to countless people living with different experiences.
Another artwork that caught my attention was Tina Maneca’s Comfort is an Action. A canopy hangs above the bassinet, with a texture floor quilt under the bassinet. Next to it is a shelf with a book belonging to the artist's father and under it is a sewn throw draped on a chair. On both the chair and in the bassinet city plushies, one plushie in the bassinet has a textured chest. I chose this artwork for the same reason I chose Jennifer Roberts’s works because it reminded me of my childhood. Being in the crib and climbing out to tell my mom something. Once I learned about the texture on the plushie’s chest were drug bags, it connected to my own even more. I like exploring social issues and I’ve done this before in regards to women's sexual autonomy. I feel like with this add piece of information about the plushie, it keeps the idea of child and innocence while adding a warning about drugs next to or in a child’s possession.
