My work focuses on the relationship between my mom and my little sister. Specifically the version of my mom that is softer, present and gentle. Growing up I had a different version of her, life was more difficult for my mom, my sister gets a different version of her now when life itself is a little more gentle. This series sits in that space between what I see, what I feel, and what I imagine it must be like for her.
Half of the work is from my perspective. These pieces will be done in oil because it's slower, more layered, more realistic feeling. It reflects how I view their relationship from the outside, always trying to understand it but never fully inside it.
The other half is from my sister's perspective, created in pastel. These pieces will be softer, more dream-like, very immediate. They represent what I would have seen if I was in her position a moment in time I can only imagine to be in.
There's a bittersweetness in all of it. A sense of loss but not resentment. This body of work isn't about resolving that feeling, it's about sitting in it and understanding that both perspectives can exist in time together through grief, growth and appreciation.
