Post 3 - Exhibition as Audience - Home Here - Ashley Robinson

Exhibition as Audience

For the two artworks from the Home Here exhibition at the Visual Art building gallery I picked Katelyn Halpern’s art pieces and Tina Maneca’s works. All of the pieces spoke to me in a way but I really appreciated Halpern’s way of asking questions to let people contemplate, the simpleness of the question mixed with the yes or no option to answer. Often making answers that could go on and on forced into a simple word. “It doesn’t hurt to ask? Yes _ No _” and “Everyone needs their peace” and “Everyone needs their piece” right next to each other in the gallery, the similarity in the question, with the same yes or no options to answer. With Tina Maneca’s work I love her use of things that have been thrown away and no longer need to be used with baby room things and supplies. The color scheme is very beautiful and calm, making the pieces stand out. When she was explaining her work I felt how personal it was for her, to remake such a personal place and especially out of things thrown away. The stuffed animals in the crib and on the chair are my favorite pieces in the installation. I feel like both artists works connect to my own art because of how it makes you ponder and think, while also being visually appealing. I like how they showed their thoughts and messages into physical form.
