Influences in Art Practice
.) I watched five artists: Cao Fei, Wangechi Mutu, Guadalupe Maravilla, Theaster Gates, and Sarah Sze.
.) The artists talked about themes like identity, culture, community, and healing. Some of them used their work to talk about personal history or social issues. For example, Maravilla focuses on healing and his immigration story, while Mutu explores identity and the body. Gates talked about community and preserving culture through art.
.) Many of the artists faced challenges such as difficult life experiences, pressure from society, or the complexity of their ideas. Maravilla talked about his experience immigrating as a child, and others described how making large or complicated artworks can be difficult and time-consuming.
.)From watching the videos, I was inspired by how personal their work is and how they turn their life experiences into art. It showed me that art does not have to be perfect, but it should express something meaningful.
.)After watching the videos, I would like to be more confident experimenting with new materials and ideas. I also want to think more about the message behind my artwork and how it connects to my own experiences and the world around me.
