Imani was born in Manhattan, New York and raised in Brooklyn until the age of 12 or 13, before moving to Newark, New jersey, where she has lived ever since. she attended public school, where she began her journey into art. For Imani, art became a way to express emotions that were difficult to put into words. Her passion for photography started when her mother gave her, her first camera on Christmas and from that moment on, she fell in love with photography. Imani mostly uses a DSLR camera, focusing on taking picture on nature, neighborhood and everyday moment in life. She is inspired by the beauty of the place she lived and the small details that mostly get overlooked by others.
Artist Statement-
Her work explores the theme of self discovery and personal growth, encouraging a person to find themselves and their place in the world. through her photography, she aims to tell meaningful stories that reflect on her perspective and highlight the sense of belonging and finding the person within themselves. Her work also touch base on the idea that people come and go in life, which can sometime lead to feeling lonely. However she also believe if finding the right person can help guide you to thread your path with you, making everyday life more meaningful and encouraging. Imani works with both a DSLR camera and a Kodak film camera. She enjoy using film for it rich black and white tones, while her digital camera allows her to capture a strong contrast, texture and detail. Through her artwork, Imani want her audience to not only see her photo but also feel them. She hope her audiences can connect her work to their own experiences and emotions. But the most important goal Imani want is to move people and help them see themselves within her art, and she also want to learn from her journey and step out her own comfort zone and find growth beyond personal boundaries.
