Arizabeth Baez -Artist Statement and BIO

 ARTIST STATEMENT

Being an artist can mean many things. Being able to project and express what we feel is truly challenging. One of the many passions found is being able to tell stories and share them so everyone can see and feel them. For this BFA Art Project, this exhibition will contain a series of 18 digital photographs to be displayed on the wall. These images are meant to evoke emotion and expression. Some specific elements that can be noticed are texture, lines, patterns, facial expressions, movement, framing, contrast, and composition. It is a mix of documentary, lifestyle, and environmental portraiture. They are authentic, raw, and emotional in all senses. In addition to the photographs, I plan to provide an audio experience for the audience. I base my best influences on Cindy Sherman, Franchesca Woodman, and Peter Joel-Witkin.
These influences truly have a sense of intimate and detail-focused work. Which is why I tend to lean on them for various reasons. Since the photographs are visually expressive, A visual and auditory experience will be tied all together. The size of all images will vary from 8x10,11x15, and 10x12. On the other hand, the auditory part, I will have headphones connected to a tablet that contains the other part of the experience. There will be a chair facing the front (the images), while each person taking turns has the ability to grab the headphones and experience the installation as a whole. This allows them to be able to visualize emotions.
My concept for this artwork is to express and document what I and others in this world have felt throughout the years. Thus, the title is "Ethereal Dissolution”. My goal is that through this fusion of sight and sound, the audience is invited to move beyond mere observation and truly visualize the weight of a human heart.
