Arizabeth Baez - Artists Talk Sky Hopinka

After reading the Article, his inspiration informs his creative process by having his own "Cringe check Process". Meaning that once he checks for everything, and if he starts to cringe, it means he will change something about it.

-Two quotes that really caught my attention were:

Sitting down watching cuts all the way through, beginning to end, in a dark room, preferably next to someone, is always really helpful. When I start to cringe, I know that I need to change something."

The reason I chose this quote is that I can relate to this type of process. I tend to do the same. For my projects, I stare at my images for quite a while and then see if something needs to be changed or edited. The good thing is that due to this, there have been moments when I had to change my images to other ones or change certain details.

So my audience is a Native audience, my audience is an indigenous audience, my audience is one that understands things about certain belief systems or certain cultural values or certain communities that may have been oppressed, that may still be trying to figure out what their trajectory holds for them."

When he mentions this, it reminds me of the fact that there are artists who can choose their audience. In this case, he chose his audience for the artwork he created. As for me there is no audience that I specifically choose.

- Sky uses his medium by doing what he wants. Such as being very manipulative and layering his images. Apart from that, he tends to be abstractive of his work. He also focuses on composition.

- Sky got inspired to use video by getting to know the language Chinuk Wawa.

- Some materials and media that I tend to use for my artwork are digital photography and camera/tools that help me complete my work.

- I used to be into painting to express, but it lead into photography for many reasons. One of them being I was able to be freer in capturing emotions one cannot "see". Also, digitla phorography is able to be transformed into many ways and as many as you can; all to send a message too. Photography is also used to express emotion and document many things in life.
