Post 3 (extra): Home is Here Exhibition

 Home is Here: Jennifer Roberts

Seeing a bunch of skilled artists together in one room is always so inviting and refreshing, espically incredble artist in this exhibition. I had the honor of helping set up the exhibition, especially fixing the aluminum wall. With that, I got to know one of the artists, painter, Jennifer Roberts, who was doing a piece on her ancestry, especially her lost ancestry.

This piece stuck out the most to me, becasue my BFA, I am doing something similar, honoring the memory of my Grandmother. She had up about eight painted photos of her family, a table with a pen and a notebook for people to write in, and most importantly that struck me- was teh abundant of old photos that would be around you as you sat down.

At first glance youd think these were her photos,s right? wrong! they arent, they are photos she's bought from online shops or vintage stores. As someone who goes thrifting, lost photos are something you will always find, and they even sell them, like "ten photos for a dollar", and I'd always take my time looking through them. Although these folks are not our family or people we know, they were once alive, once joyful, and often these photos depict birthdays and celebrations, and it's nice to know these strangers were happy, but can also question, do they even celebrate these people anymore? and especially had me reflect on my grandmother and my ancestors before me, because there must be some people worth remembering..and even if we dont know them they may know us.

Overall, Everyone was so nice and brilliant, but the exhibit definitely brought me home.
