post 2 influences in art practice

1-Who are the 5 artists you chose?

Andrea Zittel, Sarah Sze, Miranda July, Gabriel Orozco, Tau Lewis

2-What were the themes the artists addressed about making work?

Andrea Zittel - an artist who truly "lives" through her artwork by wanting to show reflection towards the earlier generations of modernism.

Sarah Sze - she was able to have the opportunity to examine as well as to amplify how we move with acceleration and speed through space.

Miranda July - A writer who is also a performer that was willing to showcase these different personas during the pandemic almost like they're being portrayed as alter-egos in her life, slowly her work of art was becoming too surreal and taking her over, making her possessed out of who she is which is Miranda July and creating a new form of self.

Gabriel Orozco - A Spanish artist Unsatisfied with the relegation of Spanish to "street talk" in the United States, Orozco used art and literature to teach the language to gallery goers in order for them to learn about the ideas and knowledge in Spanish, making it a great way for Gabriel to showcase the art, language, culture, and education all in one.

Tau Lewis - A female artist who does figurative sculpting is able to make certain interpretations based off of what she can absorb through her artwork by using fabrics as well as using tiny thin fabrics that would be laying on the floor by the end of the day when it is time to clean up so she can create new artwork with those pieces.

3-What were the challenges the artists faced in making their work?

Andrea Zittel - her challenge was When she finally got to complete her living unit, when it was all done and didn't have nothing left to complete it on, the challenge started to happen within herself by her feeling depressed and feeling despondent that it was all over.

Sarah Sze - her biggest challenge was making the design for the new train stations along Manhattan's upper east side for 10 years of her life. Another challenge that she had was how would people be able to see the southwest corner and the east west corner of the subway and she was able to tackle this challenge by making the design look different from the two corners.

Miranda July - I think her biggest challenge through my own interpretation was through the different set of clothes she kept putting on, she was trying to figure out who really are these alter egos that are being created by her, almost as if she was trying to figure out who she really is.

Gabriel Orozco - his challenge was that he would hear people use Spanish to find a taco spot which he feels like that doesn't count as knowing proper Spanish and also he didn't feel that Spanish language had a proper status in the infrastructure of knowledge.

Tau Lewis - Her biggest challenge was that she always struggled to communicate and try to get her point across with her ideas.

4-What were the inspirations you drew from the artists?

I was inspired by their uniqueness in what they all do and aren't afraid to go above and beyond to get to where they need to get with their work.

5-What were the things you would like to incorporate into your own work after watching these videos?

I feel like what I would want to incorporate into my own work would be to convey a message with the artwork that I do as I can truly do this with graphic design but I would be very open to convey a message within my work through other forms of media like painting for example as sometimes I thought about doing more painting ever since I took an Illustration class that introduced me into Gouache painting which I thought was really interesting at the time. I feel like as an artist, when you share the meaning behind what you can make, it makes the artwork have an even bigger impact on people and have so much more meaning behind it and to me that is very important.
