Post 1, Sara Kolenovic, Introduction to the class - Answering all the questions

POST 1 INTRODUCTION to the CLASS

Who are you? What do you make? What artwork influences your art practice?

Hello my name is Sara,

I make realistic art, some graphic design work, and a few photography work. The artwork that influences my art practice is Vincent Van Gogh (Starry night and the colors chosen for it), Max Miedinger (Helvetica font and the design of it) , & Milton Glaser (I heart NY logo design and his influence around the design community).

In a short post on the class blog please include the following:
1-Choose two quotes from the Smart History article, Why art history isn’t like math, that stuck out to you and post these to the blog with a short response to each of these quotes.

1. What stuck out to me was "Art history helps objects that have largely fallen mute to speak again and reminds us that the way we see the world around us—at a particular place and time—is just one way to see.", by the Smart history article as this is because art history has played a huge significant role in human history and it allows us to travel back to time without having to see an image, video, or "clues."

1. Another thing that has stuck out to me is when the Smart History article was speaking about this: "Art historians are fascinated by moments in history when people destroyed, defaced, or buried works of art, since the destruction of an image is an implicit acknowledgement of its tremendous power and meaning."   as this is because it shows the power and impact art gives out even when it does not speak with words, it speaks with presence. This allows us to see the perspective through a visual eye, which in the long run has us perceiving the truth, emotions, and complexity through art.

2-Choose at least one artist that influences your artwork and include that inspiration in your introduction post. Have you looked to art and art history in your art education and art practice? What artists or genres would you like to explore further?

2. One artist that influences my work would be Vincent Van Gogh, as he was the first artist I knew when I first got into art. Not only that I have created two art pieces (it is not painting) but it was through pencil art and colors that I used in my work with his style so I can convey things that mattered to me the most. Honestly, I have looked for the influence of art and I know contemporary art was one of the most historical forms of art so far, along with a couple of other stuff but I did not look as much as I think I would like to. Which I would love to improve on and get more educated on art history as I am an art major who loves art but in order to create great pieces, I need to work on getting educated on art history. What genres I would like to explore further would be: Minimalism, Expressionism, and Impressionism.

3-Post 5+ images of your artwork that shows your artistic style and interests. Add captions for the 5 images that explain the works (include titles and materials/medium)

Isabelle practice drawing: Reference from another digital artist on YouTube. Materials: Procreate and different brushes and mediums.
A realistic art of a woman who I just saw online( Not someone famous), Materials used: Lid pencil, marker, & pen.

New Jersey City University, Crossnickle Building: Photo shoot.

Flowers (supposed to appreciate the beauty of Mother Nature): Photo shoot.

Death and what the individual leaves behind: It is supposed to be a reflective piece where the individual dies and the items in front of the skull is supposed to represent what they dedicated to spending their whole lives doing (is it worth it?).
Drawing of a model & actor name Liliana Kruk: It was supposed to be a challenge where if you drew her she would give a shoutout on her page (which was awhile ago, and I didn't win but it was my proudest piece as I used hb pencils, markers, and brushes for the first time).

Sonic the Hedgehog crayon study (using crayons for the first time into my artwork): Used crayola and brushes.

(I would place my Graphic Design work but for strange reasons I have issues placing them so I will try my best to place them)

4-Write 2-3 paragraphs about yourself, the artist(s) who influence you, describe some of
your artwork and what motivates you to make work and explore the creative process. Please include any social issues that you are passionate about, and how you were inspired by the artist(s) you chose. Some questions to consider: What are you studying? What artwork do you make? What topics or issues inspire your artwork or storytelling?

As an exploring Graphic Designer/artist I enjoy creating realistic art, graphic design work, and a few photography work. The artwork that influences my art practice is Vincent Van Gogh (Starry night and the colors chosen for it), Max Miedinger (Helvetica font and the design of it) , & Milton Glaser (I heart NY logo design and his influence around the design community). Honestly when I am art my creative process, I enjoy to take my time reflecting and sketching before I get to the huge project so then I can warm up. It is like working out, you cannot use your skills if you don't warm them up. Then I proceed to write down ideas for my art project, afterwards I proceed with making my piece.

Some issues that interesting to me that I am hoping to work onto my art is the conflict with Isreal & Palestine war, Mental health, War crimes, ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and how it is affecting everyone in America & my personal life experiences. As these issues holds so much significance into others lifes (besides my personal life experiences, unless if you can relate to it) and along the way I am hoping to create work that communicates not beautifies everything (as it would create meaningless work). Along with that I am hoping to improve as an artist and communicator, in hope to have a change, voice, & power; for those who are not able to do so at this current moment or who are to afraid to speak up.
